Blacktip reef sharks cruise the outer edge of the reef in loose groups, their distinctive black-tipped fins cutting the surface in the shallows at dawn and dusk. These sharks are inquisitive but non-threatening, approaching divers within a few meters before veering away, and their presence is a reliable indicator of the reef's good ecological health. Juveniles shelter in the extremely shallow sandy lagoon areas, making them observable even by snorkelers.
