Pelagic threshers rise from deep water each morning to visit cleaning stations near the top of Ticao's seamount, their extraordinarily elongated tail lobes making them unmistakable. Unlike the more famous thresher shark encounters at Malapascua, Ticao sees these animals in combination with manta rays, creating an unusual multi-megafauna experience. Encounters are best from dawn until about 9am before warming water temperatures send the sharks back to depth.

Pelagic Thresher Shark is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
