Arabian Angelfish

Pomacanthus asfur

Sighting evidence at Dubai Artificial Reef, Dubai

This striking endemic of the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea displays a bold yellow saddle patch across its deep indigo body, making it instantly recognisable on the reef structure. Pairs defend territories on the coral-encrusted hull sections and feed on sponges and tunicates that colonise the sunken metal. Their presence signals maturing coral cover on the artificial substrate.
