Dozens rest on the sandy seabed surrounding the reef modules, partially buried and almost invisible until disturbed. They feed nocturnally on molluscs, worms, and small crustaceans buried in the soft substrate between reef structures. The artificial reef has concentrated prey items and created a reliable hunting ground that supports an unusually dense local population.
