Large schools of Longfin Batfish hover in mid-water columns above the pinnacle's peak, occasionally descending to feed on zooplankton and jellyfish brought in by the current. Juveniles shelter among the sea fans on the upper reef while adults range freely into open water and are frequently the first species visible upon descending. They are among the most inquisitive fish on the reef and will often approach divers closely enough to obscure the lens of a wide-angle camera.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
