Manavai Garden Reef
Easter Island · Chile
Named after the freshwater garden enclosures the Rapa Nui people carved into the coastline, Manavai is a sheltered reef on the protected western coast that serves as the best macro and coral dive on the island. Dense Pocillopora damicornis coral heads shelter endemic damselfish species and nudibranchs recorded nowhere else. Resident hawksbill turtles feed on sponges at 12 metres. This is the site local dive instructors take new divers — calm conditions and extraordinary biodiversity.
