MV Konanda
Efate · Vanuatu
The MV Konanda is a 76-meter inter-island cargo vessel that sank in Port Vila Harbour in 1981 and now rests on its port side at 28 meters, with the hull's highest point at 12 meters making it accessible to Open Water certified divers. The wreck is remarkably intact — holds, engine room, bridge, and cargo deck all remain penetrable — and is so thoroughly colonised by hard and soft corals that it reads more as an artificial reef than a recognisable ship. Schools of batfish crowd the bridge superstructure and lionfish hunt in every doorway, while a resident Napoleon wrasse has claimed the forward hold as its territory.
