Nambatu Reef
Efate · Vanuatu
Nambatu Reef is a long barrier reef section on Efate's south coast that drops from a healthy shallow crest at 5 meters through a mixed hard and soft coral wall to a sand shelf at 28 meters, offering one of the island's best opportunities to see large pelagic species alongside the reef fish community. Surgeonfish, angelfish, and parrotfish swarm the crest in such numbers that the reef has a continuous low roar of crunching coral when feeding is at its peak. Eagle rays pass along the sand shelf below the wall, and occasional hammerheads have been reported at depth by experienced local guides.
