Moses Rock
Eilat · Israel
A solitary coral pinnacle rising from 30 metres to within 8 metres of the surface that acts as a magnet for both resident reef fish and passing pelagics, its isolated structure in an otherwise sandy bay creating the underwater equivalent of an oasis that concentrates marine life from the surrounding area. The pinnacle walls are encrusted with soft corals, sea fans, and sponges in dense colony arrangements that reflect decades of undisturbed growth under marine reserve protection. Moray eels protrude from virtually every crevice above 15 metres, while parrotfish and surgeonfish create a constant daytime grazing activity that turns slowly over to night predators of impressive size and variety when the sun sets.
