Elphinstone — North Wall
Elphinstone Reef — Plateau and Walls · Egypt
The north wall runs from the tip south for roughly 80 m before becoming the north plateau. It is more exposed than the south face and less dived, which means the coral is in remarkable condition — large sea fans extend out into the current at 25 to 35 m, black coral trees appear at 40 m, and massive Porites heads dominate the shallower sections. Silvertip sharks and the occasional pelagic thresher are seen here in autumn and winter when they move through the open water column. The wall is steep enough to feel like a true vertical drop for the first 30 m, then eases into a steep slope to sand at around 55 m.
