Sea Lemon Nudibranch

Doris pseudoargus

Sighting evidence at Hjalteyri Pier, Eyjafjörður

The sea lemon is one of Iceland's most conspicuous nudibranchs, its warty yellow-orange body reaching up to 7 cm and standing out vividly against the dark barnacle crust of the pilings. It feeds on sponges and can be found crawling across every available surface from the low tide zone down to the sandy floor. Egg ribbons in characteristic spiral shapes are found near adult individuals throughout spring and summer.
