Catalina Wreck

Funafuti Atoll · Tuvalu

A PBY Catalina flying boat that crashed during WWII operations rests on the sandy lagoon floor at 18 metres, largely intact and heavily encrusted with coral. The fuselage hosts lionfish and moray eels, while the wing sections shelter juvenile fish. A second debris field nearby contains additional aircraft parts and ammunition. This is one of very few diveable WWII wrecks in Tuvalu and sees almost no recreational diving traffic.
