Underwater at Te Ava Pua Pass

Te Ava Pua Pass

Funafuti Atoll · Tuvalu

The main channel through the northern rim of Funafuti Atoll generates strong tidal flows that attract large aggregations of grey reef sharks, barracuda, and schools of snapper. The pass narrows between coral buttresses before opening onto the outer reef slope, where the wall drops to beyond 40 metres. Drift diving on an incoming tide sweeps divers through the channel and into the lagoon in one exhilarating run.
