Sighting evidence at Illas Atlánticas Marine Park — Ons Sector, Galicia

The Ons sector hosts one of Galicia's most spectacular wildlife events — the massed moult and mating aggregation of European spider crabs in late spring and early summer, when thousands of animals gather in shallow water in dense, climbing piles. Outside aggregation season solitary individuals are still common across the entire reef, serving as important prey for large cephalopods and otter populations on the islands above.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
