Underwater at Pearl Lagoon — Rikitea

Pearl Lagoon — Rikitea

Dive site

The Gambier lagoon is one of the world's premier black pearl farming areas, and diving among the suspended oyster lines at 5 to 15 metres offers a uniquely serene experience. Pinctada margaritifera oysters hang in clusters from long lines, and the organic matter they filter creates a rich micro-environment for cleaner shrimp, pipefish, and juvenile fish. The lagoon floor beneath the farms supports meadows of seagrass visited by green turtles. Water clarity is exceptional within the lagoon on calm days, with visibility reaching 30 metres. Conditions are almost always calm, making this an ideal site for underwater photography and suitable for all certification levels.
