Underwater at Manta Cleaning Station

Manta Cleaning Station

German Channel · Palau

The most reliable manta ray encounter in Palau — a sandy-bottomed cleaning station inside the German Channel where resident oceanic manta rays queue up to be groomed by cleaner wrasse and butterflyfish. Divers kneel on the sand or hold a coral ridge while mantas glide overhead in slow, banking circuits, sometimes within arm's reach. Multiple rays often visit simultaneously, and on strong incoming tides the channel current concentrates plankton that draws additional pelagics including eagle rays and reef sharks.
