Amadores Artificial Reef
Gran Canaria · Spain
The Amadores artificial reef is a deliberately sunken collection of concrete modules and decommissioned structures placed in the sandy bay near Puerto Rico, now colonised by an extraordinary density of marine life after years of uninterrupted settlement. Nurse sharks rest beneath the reef modules in groups of up to 8 individuals, sharing the substrate with large shoals of bream, parrotfish, and Atlantic wrasse that treat the structure as a permanent home rather than a passing feeding stop. The shallow depth and calm, sheltered conditions make this an exceptional site for extended bottom time and night diving, when octopus, cuttlefish, and hunting eels transform the reef's character entirely.
