Kittiwake Wreck
Grand Cayman · Cayman Islands
The USS Kittiwake, a 76-metre US Navy submarine rescue vessel deliberately sunk in 2011, now rests upright in 18 metres on a sandy shelf off Seven Mile Beach. Five decks of penetrable interior offer everything from engine rooms to the bridge, colonised by encrusting sponges, black coral whips, and resident barracuda. Snorkellers can reach the superstructure at 5 metres while certified divers explore the full hull and open cargo holds.
