Overview

Wall in the Somosomo Strait completely sheeted in white soft coral that blooms when the tidal current runs. Entry is through a swim-through tunnel onto the vertical face. The current must be running for the corals to open — timing is everything.

Briefing note

Timed to a specific tidal window — operators choose the day, not the diver.

How we summarise this

We aggregate confirmed occurrence records from GBIF and OBIS within a fixed radius of each dive site. Occurrence records confirm presence and reveal seasonality clustering, but they DO NOT measure per-dive probability — there is no eligible-effort denominator. We deliberately do not publish a numeric '% chance of sighting' from this data.
