Zhaori Hot Spring Halocline

Dive site

One of only three submarine saltwater hot springs in the world. Boiling saline water at 53C vents through cracks in the reef at 1 to 3 metres, creating shimmering halocline columns where fresh thermal water meets cold seawater. The visual effect — dancing refractive columns rising from the reef — is unlike anything else in diving. Safe to approach from the side; direct entry into the vent is off-limits.
