Green morays at La Source reach impressive sizes — over 2 metres is not uncommon on this site — and are often encountered in open water rather than in crevices, hunting across the reef plateau in the late afternoon. Their apparent green colouration is actually a yellow-tinged mucus layer covering dark skin underneath. As apex predators of small reef fish and octopus, large morays like those at La Source are important indicators of reef ecosystem health and low fishing pressure.

Green moray is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
