Flamingo Bay
Grenada Southwest · Grenada
Flamingo Bay sits on the western side of the peninsula south of St. George's, offering a compact but richly diverse reef running from 5 to 22 metres. The bay's volcanic basalt substrate has created a network of overhangs, swim-throughs, and small caves that house some of the largest nurse sharks seen anywhere in Grenada — groups of up to 15 individuals are reported during the day. Giant grouper (Epinephelus itajara) patrol the deeper edge regularly, with two particularly large individuals — each well over a metre — that have become familiar to regular dive guides. Caribbean reef sharks cruise the outer wall alongside schools of horse-eye jacks. Hawksbill and green turtles both feed in the bay; loggerhead sightings are rare but recorded. At night, octopus, large spider crabs, and basket stars emerge across the reef.
