Basse-Terre Wall
Guadeloupe · France
South of Pigeon Island, Guadeloupe's volcanic coastline drops away in a dramatic wall that starts at 12 metres and tumbles past 40 into blue water. Black coral trees grow prolifically from 25 metres down — unusual for a Caribbean destination — and large barracuda station themselves in the mid-water column where upwellings bring cooler, nutrient-rich water along the wall face. Pelagic encounters including tuna and occasional Caribbean reef sharks reward divers willing to spend bottom time watching the blue.
