Underwater at The Brehon Tower

The Brehon Tower

Dive site

A Victorian sea fort converted by German forces in WWII sits on a granite plateau with its base colonised by plumose anemones, dead men's fingers, and one of the largest resident conger eel populations in the Channel Islands. The tower foundations form a series of natural cavities that congers up to 2 metres use as permanent dens. Spider crabs congregate here in spring in their thousands for moulting aggregations. Tidal current runs strong; plan the dive around slack or use the tower as a windbreak on the down-current side.
