Suluan Seamount
Guiuan / East Samar · Philippines
Suluan Island marks the outermost eastern edge of the Philippine archipelago before the open Pacific, and its submerged seamount is one of the region's premier pelagic diving spots. The seamount top sits at around 18 metres, and its flanks descend steeply into the blue. Scalloped hammerheads congregate here from December through April, often in schools of dozens. Oceanic whitetip sharks, thresher sharks, and silky sharks are regulars year-round. The remoteness of the site — more than two hours by banca from Guiuan — means encounters happen in conditions as close to wilderness diving as the Philippines offers.
