Cathedral Cave
Ha'apai Islands · Tonga
A large sea cave penetrating a limestone cliff on the western face of Lifuka, with a cathedral-shaped air chamber accessible at the back. Light shafts through cracks in the ceiling from roughly 09:00 to 11:00 local time, illuminating walls encrusted with golden cup corals, wire corals, and dense clusters of feather stars. The cave entrance sits at 8 metres; the main chamber floor at 18 metres. Outside the cave mouth, a short coral slope hosts resident whitetip reef sharks resting under ledges. No overhead training required for the main chamber, though a torch and buddy protocol are essential.
