Uoleva Pinnacles
Ha'apai Islands · Tonga
A cluster of submerged limestone pinnacles rising from a sandy plain at 30 metres to within 8 metres of the surface, located off the southern tip of Uoleva Island. Each pinnacle is encrusted from top to base in hard and soft corals, with the deeper bases draped in large sea fans and black coral. The channels between the pinnacles funnel current, producing strong fish aggregations: schools of fusiliers in the thousands, hunting dogtooth tuna, and a reliable cleaning station with giant manta rays visiting from November through March. Eagle rays pass through regularly on the sandy plain.
