Dodola Island
Halmahera · Indonesia
A pair of sandbar islands connected by a tidal flat in North Halmahera's Morotai district, Dodola sits in some of the most remote and productive waters of the northern Maluku Sea, ringed by walls and slopes that see very few divers per year. The outer reef edges plunge through gorgonian-studded walls to 40 m, with strong upwellings that bring Napoleon wrasse, dog-tooth tuna, and schooling barracuda to the top. The protected inner lagoon offers some of the most dazzling hard coral coverage in Indonesia, with table corals reaching 3 m across in just 8 m of water.
