Holmes Reef East Wall
Holmes Reef · Australia
The signature dive of Holmes Reef: a vertical wall dropping from 5 metres at the reef crest to beyond 600 metres, draped in sea fans and black coral trees from 20 metres down. Silvertip sharks are permanent residents and approach divers closely, often swimming in slow circles at 25 to 35 metres. The coral density on the upper wall is extraordinary — bleaching events that struck the inner Great Barrier Reef have had minimal effect here due to the Coral Sea's cooler, more stable temperatures. A truly world-class wall in every metric.
