Giftun Island Reef
Hurghada · Egypt
Giftun Island Reef is the most visited dive site near Hurghada and a genuine showcase of Red Sea coral diversity. The reef top begins just below the surface and cascades in terraces and ridges down to sandy rubble at 18 m, every surface crowded with table corals, brain corals, and branching colonies alive with wrasse, butterflyfish, and parrotfish. A resident pod of spinner dolphins often investigates divers near the western tip, and large Napoleon wrasse patrol the deeper sections with regal indifference. The water here is typically calm and clear, making it an excellent site for new divers and photographers alike, and the protected status of the Giftun marine park means the coral here is among the healthiest close to Hurghada.
