Massive conger eels inhabit the darkest recesses of Cap Blanc's cave passages, reaching lengths over 2 m and weights that make them among the largest fish on the Ibiza reef. Unlike morays, congers are shy and retreating, requiring patient hovering at the cave entrance before they slowly emerge to investigate. Their size and rarity outside cave habitats makes each encounter a highlight of western Mediterranean diving.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
