Multiple frogfish species inhabit the volcanic rubble and sponge-covered overhangs of the northern wall, using their extraordinary camouflage to ambush small fish and crustaceans from motionless positions on the reef. Patient divers and guides with local knowledge regularly find both yellow and black morphs wedged into crevices or sitting openly on sponges that match their coloration precisely. The site's cold, productive water supports unusually large sponge growth that provides ideal habitat for these masters of concealment.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
