Blue-footed Booby

Sula nebouxii

Sighting evidence at Vicente Roca Point, Isabela Island

While not a dive species, blue-footed boobies hunt by plunge-diving at Vicente Roca Point, and divers who look up from depth can watch them torpedo through the surface and pursue fish in spectacular synchronized dives. The visual of a booby folded into an arrow shape entering the water column above you is a uniquely Galapagos experience. They occasionally dive to 5 meters, putting them within the shallowest part of the dive profile.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
