Pacific Seahorse

Hippocampus ingens

Sighting evidence at Vicente Roca Point, Isabela Island

The largest seahorse in the world, the Pacific seahorse reaches up to 30 centimeters and clings to black coral branches and wire corals on the sheltered walls of Vicente Roca's coves. This is one of only a handful of sites in the Galapagos where Pacific seahorses can be reliably found, often in pairs or small groups. Their muted gold and brown coloration camouflages them against the gorgonian fans, rewarding patient macro-focused divers who search the reef carefully.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
