Manta Lodge Wall
Jervis Bay · Australia
A dramatic sandstone wall dropping from 8 metres to 28 metres on the eastern side of Jervis Bay, named for the regular manta ray sightings that cluster near the wall in late spring and summer. The wall face is encrusted in orange and purple sponge colonies with large plate and fan corals on the deeper sections. Wobbegong sharks are tucked into nearly every horizontal surface on the wall, while large cephalopods including giant cuttlefish emerge after dark. The site is exposed to easterly swell and is best dived in settled autumn and spring conditions.
