Underwater at The Docks

The Docks

Jervis Bay · Australia

A shallow ledge system on the northern side of Jervis Bay that shelters one of the bay's most accessible grey nurse shark aggregation sites. Between June and November, several nurse sharks typically rest in the deeper gutters between 18 and 22 metres while the shallower ledge tops are carpeted in sponge gardens. The protected calm conditions here make it the preferred site when swell closes down the more exposed southern sites. Nudibranchs are prolific in the shallows, and eastern fiddler rays are common on the sand patches.
