Manta Reef
Kadavu Island · Fiji
Manta Reef is a celebrated year-round cleaning station on the northern edge of the Great Astrolabe Reef where resident and visiting reef manta rays glide in from the open ocean to be groomed by cleaner wrasse. The cleaning station sits on a shallow coral bommie at 8-12 metres, making it accessible for all levels while the mantas perform slow barrel rolls just metres from divers. On good days five or more mantas queue at the station simultaneously, their white and black patterning distinct enough for researchers to identify individuals across seasons.
