Underwater at Cape Maslen Nos Wall

Cape Maslen Nos Wall

Dive site

Cape Maslen Nos south of Kaliakria presents Bulgaria's most dramatic underwater wall — a near-vertical limestone cliff that drops from 4 metres to beyond 35 metres, colonised by encrusting sponges in orange and yellow, anemone clusters, and the occasional loggerhead turtle resting in ledges during summer. The wall faces north, so light is diffuse and colour retention is excellent for photography down to 20 metres. Mild seasonal currents deliver nutrients that sustain large populations of scorpionfish and common two-banded sea bream tucked into the cliff face. A winter halocline at 15 to 18 metres creates a visible mixing layer that adds an unusual visual dimension to wall dives.
