Museum Ship Respublika

Dive site

The Respublika is a decommissioned Bulgarian naval vessel scuttled as an artificial reef and dive attraction north of Kaliakria Cape, resting upright on a sandy bottom at 22 metres. The hull is largely intact, with open hatches and a navigable main deck that allows recreational penetration through the bridge and forward hold. Black Sea gobies have colonised every horizontal surface, and the anchor chain hosts dense clusters of mussels and the oyster-like Ostrea edulis. Because the Black Sea lacks sharks and large predators, divers encounter an unusually tranquil wreck ecosystem where comb jellies (Mnemiopsis leidyi) drift in bioluminescent clouds on night dives.
