Bar Reef
Kalpitiya · Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka's largest and most biodiverse coral reef system stretches 3.5 km across a shallow plateau, its labyrinthine coral gardens sheltering an extraordinary density of reef fish, sea turtles, and seasonal pelagics. The reef has remained relatively healthy compared to Sri Lanka's other reefs thanks to its Marine Sanctuary status and distance from populated coastlines, supporting extensive branching Acropora tables and massive Porites bommies. This is the anchor dive site of any Kalpitiya trip and ranks among the finest reef dives in the Indian Ocean.
