Lobster Wall
Kapalai Island · Malaysia
A gentle sloping wall draped in sea fans and barrel sponges drops from 5 to 25 metres and is riddled with crevices sheltering ornate lobsters, pygmy seahorses clinging to gorgonian fans, and multiple frogfish species wedged into sponge colonies. The wall's orientation catches gentle currents that bring nutrients and concentrate planktonic prey, supporting a food web dense enough to sustain unusually high populations of cryptic macro species. This is Kapalai's signature site for serious macro photographers targeting subjects that appear nowhere else in the Celebes Sea.
