The Lycian coast is one of the most important loggerhead nesting grounds in the eastern Mediterranean; nesting females return to the same beaches every 2 to 3 years. Juveniles and sub-adults forage over shallow reef and seagrass beds through summer. They feed primarily on jellyfish, molluscs, and crustaceans. IUCN lists the species as Vulnerable; boat strike and bycatch remain the primary threats in Turkey.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
