Spotted eagle rays glide through the sandy channels between basalt blocks at General Stores, using their elongated snouts to excavate molluscs and crustaceans from the substrate. They are commonly seen as solitary individuals but occasionally aggregate in small groups off Kauai's east shore, particularly in the warmer summer months when water temperatures peak. Their distinctive white-spotted dark dorsum makes them immediately recognisable from above, and their wingspan can exceed 2.5 metres in large adults.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
