Echuca Passage
Dive site
Echuca Passage is a narrower tidal channel that produces some of Kavieng's most exhilarating drift dives when the tide runs. Divers enter at the channel mouth and fly through with the current, passing walls that are heavily encrusted with hard and soft coral, while schools of fusiliers part around them and sharks hold station in the eddies behind coral outcrops. When the current eases at slack water, the site transforms into an approachable reef dive with exceptional coral coverage. Whitetip reef sharks rest on ledges, and the rubble zones shelter jawfish and garden eels. The dual character of the site — full-on drift or relaxed reef exploration — makes it one of the most versatile dives in the Kavieng area.
