Nago Island WWII Wreck
Dive site
A Japanese WWII landing barge rests in shallow water off Nago Island, sitting upright on a bed of white sand at 12 to 16 metres in conditions calm enough for snorkellers to peer down from the surface. Decades of coral recruitment have transformed the steel hull into a vibrant artificial reef, with table corals spreading across the deck and sea fans colonising the superstructure. Anemonefish cluster at every anemone on the hull, crocodilefish rest motionless on the sand alongside, and blue-spotted stingrays cruise the perimeter. The site's depth and calm conditions make it an outstanding introduction to wreck diving for newer divers, and equally satisfying for experienced divers as a relaxed, photogenic afternoon dive.
