Father's Reef Seamount

Kimbe Bay — Seamounts & Schumann Island · Papua New Guinea

A mid-bay seamount rising from 600 m to a plateau at 18 m, encrusted with deep gorgonian fans and schooling anthias. Scalloped hammerhead sharks aggregate beneath the thermocline (28–35 m) on flood tides between May and October, resident whale sharks have been documented year-round feeding on plankton blooms above the summit, and oceanic mantas cross regularly.
