He-I-Geni Shoal

Kimbe Bay — Seamounts & Schumann Island · Papua New Guinea

A submerged shoal in central Kimbe Bay famous in the scientific literature for extraordinary hard-coral diversity — over 400 species recorded in a single survey. Bumphead parrotfish aggregate here in schools of 50 or more at dawn, and the shallow crown at 6 m is smothered in Acropora table corals in near-pristine condition.
