Kimbe Island Channel
Kimbe Bay — Seamounts & Schumann Island · Papua New Guinea
The channel between Kimbe Island and the mainland funnels tidal currents over a series of coral bommies that rise from 35 m to the surface. Whale sharks are sighted reliably from July to October feeding on krill blooms in the channel, grey reef sharks cruise the bommie tops, and barracuda form dense tornado schools in the mid-water column.
