Failaka Island Wreck Trail
Kuwait · Kuwait
Failaka Island off northeastern Kuwait holds the Gulf's most historically significant dive trail: a cluster of vessels deliberately sunk or lost during the 1990 Iraqi invasion and subsequent liberation conflict, now colonised by a surprising diversity of marine life given the Gulf's extreme temperatures. The main wreck, a patrol boat in 15 metres, is thoroughly encrusted with oysters, sponges, and small corals, while clouds of glassfish fill the wheelhouse and attract hunting trevally at dusk. Cooler winter months bring better visibility and more pelagic activity around the superstructure.
