Umm Al Maradim Island
Kuwait · Kuwait
The southernmost Kuwaiti island sits on the Saudi Arabia maritime border and rewards the longer boat ride with Kuwait's most pristine reef systems. Extensive seagrass meadows on the island's western flank are a critical dugong feeding ground; small groups of three to eight dugong are regularly encountered grazing in 2 to 4 metres of water at dawn. The reef drop-off on the eastern side reaches 22 metres and regularly attracts hammerhead sharks during cooler months.
